Take a cue from Jesus—don’t wait to rest until after all your work is done. Don’t wait until you have time to rest, because that time will never come. Watch for signs that you need a break. If you are getting cranky, distracted or tired, you need a break. Take one. Walk around the block. Eat something nutritious and take time to taste and enjoy it. Slip into someplace quiet to pray.
The Sabbath is God’s gift of downtime. The Sabbath offers time to relax, reconnect, recharge. On the Sabbath, accept the opportunity to worship. Let worship be God’s time to speak, your time to listen.
This message is adapted from “God Rested” written by Karen Melang in the June 2000 issue of Lutheran Woman Today (now Gather) magazine. Today is the fourth Sunday of Easter.
