As is so often true, dark times are important. Darkness is required for so many things. Think of seeds in the dark ground or babies in the dark womb. Dreams grow and take form in dark, reflective times, too. And night dreams contain rich insights that give birth to new attitudes and thoughts.
Like the seed in dark earth, our longings are nurtured in the dark and quiet time of Advent, in the dark and quiet spaces of our hearts. Like the darkness of a womb, Advent provides space for our longings to grow and come to birth. You see, Advent is a time of tremendous activity.
This message is an excerpt of the devotional “What wants to be born in you: Advent is a time of darkness and possibility” by Sonia C. Solomonson in the December 2016 issue of Gather magazine.
