This past March, when worry kept me awake, a thought came: I could turn my home-based business of sewing weighted blankets into a mask-making factory. I put the word out on social media that I would donate masks to anyone. The overwhelming response was the first of many kind surprises. Strangers and friends also donated materials and money so I could keep sewing face masks for those in need. Other surprises: Wisconsin firefighters volunteered to deliver groceries to people like my parents. Medical workers and first responders went to work, despite the risks, day after day. Families stayed home so infection would not spread to those who are most fragile.
We live one moment at a time. We help each other in small ways. Covered by God’s love, buoyed by our acts of generosity for one another, we will survive this pandemic.
