It would be easy to conclude that the Spirit does most of the heavy lifting in the work of the Holy Trinity. Where there is One, however, there are Three. The Holy Spirit works to make the Father’s creative work and the Son’s saving work evident to believers. Furthermore, the Spirit works to draw all people – even those who have not yet come to believe – into awareness of the power of God.
We cannot move more quickly than the Holy Spirit. We cannot be so slow that the Spirit gives up on us. We cannot be so disordered that the Spirit is unable to bring new life and hope. We cannot be so dead that resurrection is impossible.
The power of the Holy Spirit is real and accessible. We see the wind. We observe the tides. We witness births and deaths. The seasons come and go. The church continues. And we say, again and again, “Come, Holy Spirit, come.”
