The biblical images of the vine, the mustard bush and the cross itself are none of them even self-respecting trees, yet all paradoxically are trees of life. For many poets, preachers and hymn writers, Christ is the mythic tree of life, bearing its 12 fruits, a tree beyond nature as our life in Christ is beyond our nature.
