The fundamental work of the Holy Spirit is to take the life-giving ministry of Jesus out of the past and make it alive for us today. Who is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is the Lord and giver of life! Since it is Jesus who sends the Holy Spirit to work in our lives, we avail ourselves of the Holy Spirit by attending to the story of Jesus. The Holy Spirit at work in us wherever and whenever the story of Jesus is told.
This message is adapted from “Who Is the Holy Spirit” written by Richard Jensen in the October 1993 issue of Lutheran Woman Today (now Gather) magazine. On this 17th Sunday after Pentecost, we remember William Tyndale, translator, martyr, who died in 1536.
