Back-to-School with WELCA

Welcome!

Remember what it was like to experience new classes, teachers, and classmates? You probably felt a lot of excitement and a little fear. What’s it like now as you prepare for a new program year in your congregational unit? We’re continuing our yearlong leadership training focus with an online event to inspire you and the women of your unit.

Using an “open house” format, in one hour we took guests from the auditorium to the library, to the classroom, and even to the school nurse as we helped participants prepare for the coming program year in Women of the ELCA. A recording of the event is added below.

Fall 2022 Bible study

“Jesus and nature: Teachers of Faith” by the Rev. Sara Olson-Smith
Jesus often turned to the natural world in teaching, opening our eyes to see creation not just as something to be cared for, but as our teacher and kindred. It is no mistake that Jesus, who lovingly spoke of soil and plants, was thought to be a gardener that first Easter morning. This three-session Bible study will shift our perspectives and allow nature to be our teacher, through the words of Jesus and other parts of Scripture. The trees, the soil and the creatures will offer us new perspectives on the character of God and challenge us to deepen our stewardship of God’s precious creation. Download a PDF of Session 1

September 2022, Session 1: “Trees,” will tap into Biblical images of trees and explore why planting and protecting trees is important, while rooting us in models of interdependence and mutuality.

Café (http://boldcafe.org), an on-line magazine, shares stories written by bold young adult women + friends who write about faith, relationships, advocacy and more. Readers and writers of Café include pastors, seminary and college students, and other young adult women who use Café as a Bible study resource individually or with a group.
