Purpose
The purpose of
this scholarship is
to provide
assistance to ELCA
women interested in
reaching the top of
their field as an
administrator. The
additional education
may be pursued
through full-time
attendance in
school, night
course, or summer
session. |

History |

This scholarship
was established
in 1998 by
Esther Arne.
Esther served on
the Women of the
ELCA Churchwide
Executive Board
in its first
triennium. |
 |
To date, eight
women have
received
scholarships
from the
interest on the
endowment fund. |
 |
The average
award has been
$500. |

Eligibility and
guidelines
The applicant must: |
 |
be a citizen of the
United States of
America. |
 |
hold membership in
the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in
America. |
 |
have at least a
bachelor's degree. |
 |
provide the
following: |
| |
1.

records of any academic or professional courses taken
since being awarded
a bachelor's degree, |
| |
2.
|
examples of being a decision maker, and |
| |
3.
|
evidence of ability and willingness to study. |

Recipient
commitment |
|
1. |
Women of the
ELCA must be
notified in
writing of any
change in
education plans. |
2.

Scholarship
funds must be
used within the
academic year
following the
award. |

3. |
Scholarship
funds must be
returned if the
educational
program is
canceled, or if
it is terminated
by personal
decision of the
recipient. |

4. |
If requested,
recipient will
be interviewed
for an article
in a Women of
the ELCA
publication and electronic
media. |

Please note |

Maximum amount
awarded to any
recipient for
this scholarship
is $1,000. |
 |
Recipient is
eligible to
reapply and
receive
assistance for a
maximum of two
years. |

Women of the
ELCA reserves
the right not to
award
scholarships in
any given year. |

for the 2009–2010
school year will be
accepted between
December 15, 2008
and February 15,
2009. |
