Schmieder Leadership Scholarship for women faculty at ELCA colleges and seminaries
The purpose of this scholarship is to develop and promote women's leadership at ELCA colleges and seminaries by assisting women administrators and faculty to participate in a leadership and management training institute (such as the Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education at Bryn Mawr College). This scholarship was begun by Charlotte Fiechter, the second executive director of Women of the ELCA, to encourage academic and administrative leadership among women on our ELCA college, university, and seminary faculties and staffs. The funds for this scholarship are from interest on the Schmieder Endowment Fund. To date, 22 women have attended summer institutes, each receiving between $2,000 and $4,000, with additional monetary assistance from her college, university, or seminary.
