Exodus 1:15-22
Shiphrah and Puah, two Hebrew midwives, were called by God to help give
birth to Israel’s future by resisting violence in a clever and creative way.
Resisting the temptation to believe that they would always be slaves in Egypt,
these faithful women listened to and obeyed God’s call to action.
In your daily vocation, where is God calling you to action? How will God use
your cleverness and creativity to help give birth to shalom in our
troubled world? What other women can you think of who have heard and followed
God’s call to action in clever and creative ways? What young woman in your
life is struggling to follow God’s call to bring peace? How are you called to
creatively support her?
Prayer
Holy Voice calling to us, give us courage to listen carefully and to act boldly
for the sake of your shalom in all the world. Bless our cleverness and our
creativity with your life-giving spirit. Amen
