Romans 16:1-2
Phoebe receives a note of commendation and introduction from Paul as she
leaves her base in Cenchreae and travels to Rome. He identifies her as a
"benefactor of many and of myself as well" and encourages those in
Rome to "help her in whatever she may require." It all sounds a
little vague! What must it have been like to travel to a new place where she
was unknown? How difficult would it be for you to disentangle yourself from
ties and relationships and responsibilities and start all over again? Could God’s
call ever be inconvenient? Could God’s call be disruptive? How do you handle
your fear when you sense that God may be calling you to something new?
Prayer
Gracious God, lead us and guide us as we make our way through the days of our
lives. Grant us confidence that you walk with us. In Jesus’ name. Amen
