quilt kits overflow in The Dwelling Place

Gifts were collected for social service organizations in the San Antonio area and quilts were made for Lutheran World Relief as a part of the  in-kind gifts project.

* Gift cards: $22,853 was collected in gift cards.

*Health kits: 732 health kits were assembled.

*Phone cards: 117,382 minutes purchased.

*Quilts: 599 quilt kits and assembled a total of 171 quilts.

Women celebrate ordination


ELCA clergywomen


Thirty-five years ago Elizabeth Platz became the first Lutheran woman pastor in North America. Today there are 3,000 on the active clergy role of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Women of the ELCA celebrated this milestone, which came about in part due to the efforts of women's organizations. The celebration was part of the Great Banquet held Saturday evening.

 


Delegates act on budget, address issues
 

Texas delegates hard at workDelegates were hard at work with a variety of actions. In addition to passing a budget of more than $3 million in 2006, they have acted on a variety of issues. These issues include, but are not limited to, issues related to hunger, ageism, Sudan, commercial sexual exploitation, refugees, and the ELCA statement on human sexuality.
