What is a memorial
and how do we submit
one to the
churchwide women's
organization?
A memorial is a
formal written
proposal that a
specific action or
position be taken.
If said proposal
affects the entire
organization and it
is the desire for it
to reach the
Triennial Convention
for consideration,
it must be presented
at a synodical
women’s convention
and adopted by same.
This action must
then be officially
submitted to the
churchwide women's
organization for
action by the
Triennial
Convention.
The official form
for submitting a
memorial is
attached. The
official memorial
form must be
certified by the
synodical secretary;
she is responsible
for seeing that the
memorial is sent to
the churchwide
office.
All memorials
must be sent to the
churchwide office no
later than November
30, 2007; a
completed form must
be attached to each
memorial if the
memorial does not
fit within the
provided form.
Please send
memorials in as soon
as they are acted
upon at your
synodical
convention.
We encourage you
to submit memorials
electronically and
direct them to
deb.bogaert@elca.org
Please follow up by
submitting a hard
copy with the
official signature
of the synodical
secretary to Women
of the ELCA, c/o Deb
Bogaert, 8765 W.
Higgins Rd.,
Chicago, IL
60631-4101
The memorials
committee of the
Seventh Triennial
Convention will
consider these
actions prior to the
convention. The
committee's
recommendations for
handling these
actions will appear
in the Convention
Program and Reports
that will be mailed
to delegates prior
to the Triennial
Convention.
