Associated Church Press honors Gather, Cafe

The Associated Church Press honored two Women of the ELCA publications at its annual Best of the Christian Press Awards Banquet April 26 in Chicago. Gather picked up four awards and Café one.

“We appreciate it when our readers compliment the magazine on its articles, and when the judges agree we are doubly honored to be a part of this wonderful faith resource for women,” commented Kate Elliott, editor. “Of course, having great writers never hurts.”

Managing editor Terri Lackey agrees. “As a staff of two, Editor Kate Elliott and I are always proud when Gather comes home from ACP with writing awards because we compete with top-notch Christian magazines like Christian Century and Sojourners.”

The awards received were:

Honorable Mention in the Best in Class, Online, Independent Website, category: boldcafe.org, Elizabeth McBride, editor and graphic designer, Kate Elliott, editor

Award of Excellence in the Reporting and Writing, Personal Experience, Long Format, Magazine/Journal category: “Please God” by S.K. O. (September 2013) (Kate Elliott and Terri Lackey, editors)

Award of Excellence in the Theological: Devotional/Inspirational Long Format, All Media category: “Wilderness Journey” by Julie A. Kanarr (January/February 2013) (Kate Elliott and Terri Lackey, editors)

Award of Merit in the Theological: Biblical Interpretation, All Media category: “A Wild and Crazy Guy” by Julie A. Kanarr (June 2013) (Kate Elliott and Terri Lackey, editors)

Honorable Mention in the Reporting and Writing/Department, Print Media category: “Playing for Keeps” Family Matters column by Elyse Nelson Winger (July/August 2013) (Kate Elliott and Terri Lackey, editors)
