Thankofferings
help Women of
the ELCA
participants
and their
congregations
to reflect on
their
ministries and
how they have
been blessed.
Historically,
this long
tradition of
giving
offerings of
thanks took
place in the
fall, showing
gratitude for
God's
blessings in a
bountiful
harvest and
preparing for
the harshness
that winter
would bring. |

Women of the ELCA encourages women to give thanks and offerings often because they provide occasions to reflect on women's mission and ministry and to see where new needs are arising. Thankofferings make up part of the organization's annual gift to the ELCA. They also support Women of the ELCA programs and services and help the church reach out in ministry worldwide. This collective giving is at the heart of carrying on a vision for mission and ministry. The heart and cross symbol reminds us that this offering is the result of God's activity in our lives. |
