Making a
difference,
one by one
It's
Advent and
soon we will
hear again
Mary's
incredible
social action
hymn, the
Magnificat.
Mary sings
about the
redeeming and
reconciling
love of God
that has
transformed
her and that
transforms
all who
believe, a
love that
brings a new
order to
earth.
You
have
shown
strength
with your
arm,
you
have
scattered
the proud
in their
conceit,
you
have
deposed
the
mighty
from
their
thrones
and
raised
the lowly
to high
places.
You
have
filled
the
hungry
with good
things,
while
you have
sent the
rich away
empty.
It’s Advent
and we are
called to
work for
justice and
peace in all
the earth.
One way that
you can do
that right
now is to
become a ONE
LUTHERAN. The
ONE Campaign
is a new
effort to
fight extreme
poverty and
hunger. The
goal is to
convince the
political
leaders of
the United
States to
give an
additional
ONE percent
of the U.S.
budget to
meeting the
basic needs
of the
world’s
poorest, to
provide for
education,
health, clean
water, food,
and care for
orphans.
It’s
Advent and
you can sign
the ONE
declaration.
You can
tell
a friend
about the
ONE Campaign. You
can join the ELCA’s
e-advocacy
network. You
can wear a
white
wristband to
let others
know about
this effort
to end
poverty and
hunger,
especially on
December 10th
when the
World Trade
Organization
meets. You
can use the
ONE
devotional
resource on
poverty at a
meeting this
month. You
can use the
many Advent
worship
resources, at
home, in your
congregational
unit or in
your
congregation.
You can
purchase
fairly traded
items for
gifts this
Christmas.
It’s
Advent. Won’t
you join me
and become a
ONE LUTHERAN?
