What does
it mean to
act boldly?
On
February 25, we
celebrate our
inaugural
Bold Women's
Day, a
day to honor
and remember
the women — each in
their own way
— who act
boldly on
their faith
in Jesus
Christ. Two
years ago,
when our
churchwide
staff was
engaged in
strategic
planning for
this
triennium, we
asked
ourselves a
simple
question:
What does it
mean to "act
boldly"? We
returned to
those answers
last month
when we
renewed our
strategic
planning
efforts. I
share our
answers here,
and invite
you to first,
imagine a
world where
these things
are true and
second, to
work with us
in making
that world a
reality.
If we act
boldly, we:
-
let no
human
restrictions
impede our
response to
God.
-
are able to
accept
change.
-
feel the
fear, yet
we move
forward
anyway.
-
move
forward
with
confidence.
-
do what is
needed,
even if it
is not
accepted.
-
use the
full powers
of
imagination,
gifts, and
experience.
-
focus on
mission,
making
mission
manifest.
-
speak,
acting on
our beliefs
even in
light of
consequences.
-
are
prophetic,
acting on
the Holy
Spirit
without
waiting for
others.
-
do not get
caught in
what seems
obvious.
-
live fully
and
enthusiastically
with God.
-
are
comfortable
addressing
unsafe
issues.
-
are
uncomfortable
for the
greater
good.
-
step out on
faith and
go with the
Spirit.
