History

Historically, women's organizations existed to give women a voice in the
church when they had none. And when women claimed their voices, their
hearts, hands, feet, and purses followed in bold action.
This is a brief history of Women of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America written by Nancy J. Stelling, the first editor
of Lutheran Woman Today magazine.
Nancy shares with you a bit of the history of the organization through
each triennium, starting with the Constituting Convention in June 1987,
and something about the various ministries in which the organization was involved over
20 years. More >
What's your history?
Perhaps you were involved in some of these activities. Or maybe you
chose another. After you've read this history, take a moment to write
down the significant aspects of your unit's ministry over the past 20 years
or less. Then send it to us by e-mail or
letter and we'll share some of your bold actions on this Web
site. Be sure to include your congregation or unit name and location
(city/state). Put the words "Anniversary History" in your
e-mail subject line or on your
envelope.
