Act Boldly

Have you found your bold?
Whether you need to find your bold, jumpstart your bold, or celebrate your bold, we have just the event for you. And it’s not just for you, it’s an event for you and all the women and girls you hold dear.

On two weekends, in three locations across the country this year, Lutheran women are invited to come together for a day-and-a-half long event that will help you find your bold and discover ways to put it into action.

What can you expect?
"Act Boldly" opens Friday evening with a celebration of community. That's one reason you'll want to bring a group of women from your congregation! On Saturday, you will hear bold stories and meet the bold women who have lived them. Using a workbook created just for these events, you will discover and explore what bold means and might look like for you, and explore the ways you might put that boldness into action. You'll leave Saturday evening knowing how you can act boldly on your faith in Jesus Christ and how you can mobilize other women to act boldly on their faith too.

Events will be held May 18–19 in Sioux Falls, S.D., and September 28–29 in Omaha, Nebr. and Washington, D.C. Bring a group and pay less than regular price per individual. Check our Web site for more information.

GME 2007

Global Mission Event 2007Resources for promoting the 2007 Global Mission Event in your congregation are posted at www.elca.org/gme along with complete program information and online registration. This year's summer GME takes place at The Ohio State University in Columbus.

Under "Promotion" you will find two downloadable bulletin inserts (one-page and two-page), three advance publicity articles (short, medium, and long) for your church newsletter, logos, and a PowerPoint slide show.

You may also view video selections from the 2006 GME plenaries and download photos to help in your promotion.

The Global Mission Event has long been important to women and the women's organization. If you've not experienced it, consider attending this year to get a global experience at home.

GME brochures are available from Mia Cortez at 800-638-3522, ext. 2642.

Earth Day is April 22

Explore issues of food and faith
on Earth Day, April 22.This year, Earth Day falls on a Sunday, so now's the time to plan your activities, including study, worship, and action. At the Lord's Table: Everyday Thanksgiving includes liturgies, sermon starters, and ideas for youth.

At the Lord's Table helps congregations raise issues of food and faith and teaches communities how to eat mindfully — mindful of farmers and rural communities, rich soil and clean water, and God's plentiful provision — without which our tables would be empty. Explore and celebrate the blessing of every bite with this free guide.

Also available is the ELCA's Awakening to God's Call to Earthkeeping, which includes both a leader guide and participant materials. May be used in small groups, education settings, and retreat settings.

This year, Cover the Uninsured Week comes at a critical juncture in the health coverage debate: After 10 years, the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) is up for reauthorization in Congress. Our nation's leaders have the opportunity to provide funding to cover the children currently enrolled in SCHIP and expand the program to cover 8 million more U.S. children in need of health coverage.

You are invited to write your congressperson(s) to urge reauthorization of SCHIP and to ask members of your congregation to join you in this effort.

Order your FREE Cover the Uninsured Week materials online. New magnets, lapel stickers and bookmarks are available for order and distribution at your Cover the Uninsured activities.Place your order today.

To help you promote the importance and availability of SCHIP, the following guides are now available at www.CoverTheUninsured.org/materials:

  • Health and Enrollment Fair Planning Guide
  • Guide to Working with the Media
  • Guide to Editorial Placement
  • Campus Event Planning Guide
